Edge of Tomorrow film review

Edge of tomorrow film review

2.5 Stars out of 5

Cast

Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and Bill Paxman

Storyline

An alien race has hit the Earth in an massive assault, unbeatable by any army in the world. Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat (due to always being able to dodge going as I believe he is a coward) when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself  thrown into a time loop-forcing him to live out the same brutal day over and over, fighting and dying dying and fighting again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the aliens with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Vrataski take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

To be honest I think this is just Groundhog Day with guns and aliens.  If it wasn’t for Blunt I would have given this film just 1.5 stars maybe 2 at a push as I think her acting held this together.  This seems to be another Cruise film that just doesn’t work with him in the lead role.  The graphics during the battle scenes was good but I don’t really know what else to write.  It is one film that I’ve watched it once and I don’t think I would buy the DVD to watch it again.
